Positive Ray Mdoni

Since launching our partnership with Red Cliff Samaritan Church of the ECSA, the Mdoni Outreach program has grown. In the early days 6 people would meet for prayer. Elder Flerry, his wife Millie, and Sister Terrizo have worked tirelessly in reaching the people in this poor community with creative programs around the Gospel and HIV and AIDS.

Today, approx 40 people meet on a Thursday and Sunday morning in a mud building to learn about and worship God. The Bible study lesson is followed by education around life skills, general health & hygiene,  and HIV and Aids. Millie teaches also practical skills like knitting or gardening.  The sickly are then cared for in their home.

Terrizo is originally from Tanzania where she grew up as an orphan, and later got infected herself through rape. Her story and willingness to continue have touched the people of Mdoni deeply. Today they are open to talk about HIV and AIDS and related matters. Some have confessed that they are HIV positive themselves and are now able to access ARV treatment.

Celebrating more Success:

Since the inception of the outreach in 2010 there has been much change. The community has learned to pray for each other. Since January 30 people of Mdoni confessed faith in Christ and were baptized.

Previously everyone would fend for themselves but then there was the flooding in March 2012. Suddenly the people started asking each other if they were ok, and they helped to rebuild each others homes.

In 2011 the women of Mdoni celebrated their first ever Mothers Day. Each mum was spoiled with a flower and a little gift. Adults and children have learned to keep clean and they take pride to wash their clothing and there is a community garden.
